Students to Go On ‘Safari’ at Wildlife Waystation

More than 100 low-income youths will meet some exotic and native animals face-to-face today in a “Wildlife Safari” at the Wildlife Waystation.

The program is a first for Waystation officials, who teamed up with Athletes & Entertainers for Kids, a mentoring program.

The children will see lions, chimpanzees, bears, foxes, tigers, among other creatures, in the daylong program, said Dean Seymour, a director of the Wildlife Waystation.

“We expect this to be a very fun learning experience for the children,” Seymour said.

Children from Watts, Wilmington, central Los Angeles and Echo Park will tour the Waystation’s petting zoo and various animal habitats and decorate their own habitat cage.

The Wildlife Waystation, one of the largest rescue sanctuaries in the country, cares mostly for animals confiscated from the black market and retired circus animals.
