John Cappello

Saddleback, Sophomore

Tennis

Cappello, from Corona del Mar High, spent most of last season at No. 3 singles and moved up to No. 2 this year with great success. He didn’t lose a set in victories over Golden West, Fullerton and Orange Coast to improve to 11-0 for Saddleback, which clinched its 20th conference men’s tennis title.

* Golden West, freshman. Went a season-high 6 feet 8 in the high jump at a meet in Chula Vista.

Melissa Beck

Cypress, Sophomore

Softball

Beck, a third baseman, had an amazing week for the Chargers, who went 10-0, including winning the Ventura tournament. She was 16 of 31 (.516), including three home runs that gave her the Cypress career record of 12. She also had four doubles and two triples and is hitting .487.

* Orange Coast, freshman. She won the 800 and the 3,000 as the Pirates finished 9-0 in conference meets.
