Smith’s Home Runs Pace Cal Lutheran

Designated hitter Brad Smith hit two two-run home runs to lead host Cal Lutheran over North Central (Ill.), 10-5, in a nonconference game on Wednesday.
Ryan Yoshiwara had three hits and drove in two runs for Cal Lutheran (18-6).
Master’s 12, Concordia 11--Aaron Penberthy’s two-run home run in the sixth inning tied the score, 10-10, and the Mustangs went on to win the nonconference game at home.
Josh Higgins struck out five in four innings for Master’s (21-6-1).
Reliever Kurt Fillmore replaced Billy Huddleston with one out and the bases loaded in the ninth and retired the two batters he faced.
Mike Ploharz hit a three-run home run for Master’s in the first inning and Derek Patterson smacked a three-run shot in the sixth to put Concordia ahead, 10-7.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine def. CS Northridge, 11-15, 16-14, 15-12, 15-3--Walter Eckhard had 27 kills, 11 digs and two aces for host Northridge in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
Northridge (2-17, 1-13) got 10 kills apiece from Junior Mosones and Adam Black. Steve Russell had four blocks for the Matadors.
The Anteaters (10-8, 7-6) rallied behind Mike Rupp, who had 28 kills and 13 digs, and Donnie Rafter, who had 23 kills and six digs.
Josh Richardson had 11 kills and Ty Loomis had 10 for Irvine.
SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley 10, San Bernardino Valley 0--Amber Slaton had run-scoring doubles in the first and fourth innings in a Foothill Conference game at Marie Kerr Park in Lancaster called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.
Mikki Goldwater (9-7) gave up four hits and struck out three for Antelope Valley (14-9-1, 3-1 in conference play).
