One song on the upcoming Chris Cornell album, now scheduled for September release, is a touching tribute to the late Jeff Buckley, titled “Wave Goodbye.” . . .
Ishmael Butler (previously known as Butterfly), the main force in inventive hip-hop group Digable Planets, is set to release his first solo album, “Ishmael Since 1999,” in late June on Pendulum/Red Ant. The set is said to be an evolution from the psychedelia-tinged love groove of Digable, which released its last album three years ago. . . .
OtherStarPeople, a new band featuring former L7 member Jennifer Finch, will release its debut in July. The album, produced by Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, the Cars), had been in some doubt after A&M; Records, which signed the band last year, was swallowed by Interscope, according to a label official. But the Interscope brass was impressed enough to keep it on the roster. . . .
Dogstar, which includes Keanu Reeves on bass, has been booked to open Eat’m (Emerging Artists & Talent in Music), a conference and showcase geared toward unsigned acts that will be held May 19-22 in Las Vegas. . . .
Oops, wrong Neville. Last week’s item on Ivan Neville joining the Spin Doctors identified the wrong member of the Neville Brothers as his father. It’s sweet-voiced Aaron who’s actually his dad. . . .
Film director Robert Rodriguez (“From Dusk Till Dawn”) stepped in to edit a video by his friend Tito Larriva for the song “Slow Dream” from the new Tito & Tarantula album “Hungry Sally & Other Killer Lullabies.” Larriva is also acting in “The Million Dollar Hotel,” the movie being made by Wim Wenders from an original story written by U2’s Bono. . . .
