Teachers Union OKs Contract With 2% Raise

LOS ANGELES —  The 40,000 Los Angeles Unified School District employees represented by United Teachers-Los Angeles voted overwhelmingly Thursday in favor of a contract agreement providing a 2% raise.

The proposal, which is expected to go before the Los Angeles Board of Education later this month for final approval, includes a minimal accountability plan affecting the small number of teachers who have received unsatisfactory evaluations.

The raise, which would cost about $54 million, is only half the increase initially demanded by teachers in June and contains few of the accountability measures originally demanded by district Supt. Ruben Zacarias.
