El Camino Real Beats Locke for City Title

Woodland Hills El Camino Real High, a program left for dead six years ago, reached the pinnacle of its rebuilding process Saturday night when it defeated Locke, 1-0, at Birmingham High to claim its first City Section boys’ title.
The Conquistadores (21-4-2), who didn’t field a team during the 1992-93 season because no coach could be found, used Jimmy Choto’s goal 30 seconds into the second half to claim their championship.
In the Southern Section:
Long Beach Poly 2, Damien 1--Brent Whitfield scored two goals at La Mirada High to lead Long Beach Poly (26-2-3) to its first title in Division I.
Irvine Woodbridge 1, Riverside Poly 0--Ashkahn Moayedi scored in the second minute for top-seeded Woodbridge (25-1-2) in the Division II final at La Mirada High.
Santa Margarita 3, Placentia El Dorado 1--Santa Margarita (19-7-4) scored twice in a one-minute span early in the second half to win its third consecutive Division III title at Gahr High.
West Covina South Hills 2, San Marino 1--Jesse Martinez scored with three minutes left for fourth-seeded South Hills in Division IV at La Mirada High.
Orange Lutheran 1, Carpinteria 1--Alex Karpenko scored the tying goal four minutes into the second half for Carpinteria in Division V at Gahr High. No overtime is played in the Southern Section and the teams were declared co-champions.
GIRLS
Claremont (26-3-2) scored three goals in the first 20 minutes and went on to defeat Mission Viejo (18-6-4), 4-1, in the Division I final at Gahr High. . . .Katie Schick scored the game-tying goal as third-seeded Irvine Woodbridge (18-2-8) tied Newhall Hart, 1-1, in Division II at La Mirada High.. . . .Sara Henderson scored 47 seconds into the game as Santa Margarita defeated Placentia Valencia, 5-1, to win its third consecutive title in Division III at Gahr High. . . .Andrea Valdez scored for Torrance Bishop Montgomery (24-3-3) and Mindy Wyatt scored for West Hills Chaminade (22-4-3) in a 1-1 tie in Division IV at Gahr High . . .Stephanie Etter scored with five minutes left to give Ontario Christian a 1-1 tie with Orange Lutheran in Division V at Gahr High . . .In the City Section: Maria Acosta scored in the first minute of the second half for Chatsworth in a 1-0 victory over San Pedro in the City Championship at Birmingham High . . .North Hills Monroe scored twice in the final 15 minutes for a 2-0 victory over Belmont in the Division championship at Birmingham.
