Wildfires Scattered Across Western U.S.

MUSSELSHELL, Mont. — Hundreds of firefighters worked Monday to contain a fire that threatened a small ranch town in central Montana.
Wildfires also burned in California and several other Western states.
Near Musselshell, population 50, 11 fires were started by lightning Saturday night. By Monday they burned together into three blazes that had scorched 33,000 acres.
In Southern California, firefighters contained a blaze in Santa Barbara County that had raged for nine days and skirted Los Padres National Forest.
In San Bernardino County, firefighters neared containment of a 4,000-acre fire that started Sunday.
