Tracking the Trail of Civil Rights

Just in time for Black History Month in February, several federal agencies have posted on the Internet a “We Shall Overcome” travel itinerary of 41 places in 21 states that figured in African Americans’ civil rights struggle.

The sites range from the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ala.--backbone of the 1955-56 bus boycott--to more obscure ones such as the Moulin Rouge Hotel in Las Vegas, which billed itself as “the nation’s first major interracial hotel.” The Internet site, https://www.cr.nps.gov/nr, also contains a compact history of the movement and its leaders.
