Man Impersonates FBI Agent, Gets 4 Months

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A man picked the wrong place to impersonate an FBI agent--the house of a real FBI worker--and will pay for it by spending four months in prison.
Gregory Allen Schneider, 27, of Lexington pleaded guilty in November to impersonating an agent and to submitting false information on a $57,000 mortgage application in a separate case. He was sentenced for both charges last week.
In 1997, Schneider approached two youths sitting outside a house, showed them a business card identifying him as an FBI agent and asked to use the phone.
One youth said it was OK, but the youth’s mother, an FBI employee, realized Schneider was not the agent he claimed to be and called police, U.S. Atty. Rene Josey said.
