OXNARD — An Ojai man who had failed to appear in a Ventura County court on drug charges was shot Tuesday morning as he fled from a bail bondsman, Oxnard police said. Police arrested both the injured man and his alleged assailant.
Local bail bondsman Steve Sampson had tracked down David Miller, 35, at the Vagabond Inn on Oxnard Boulevard. When Sampson and his friend, Richard Doremus of Long Beach, tried to take Miller into custody, Miller fled and Doremus allegedly shot him in the leg, police said.
Miller was treated at Ventura County Medical Center and booked on outstanding warrants. Doremus, 63, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
