UC Irvine 67, St. Francis 57--J.R. Christ shined, and was fortunate to come away without a shiner in the Anteaters’ physical victory over the Terriers (5-5) before 908 at the Bren Center.
The Anteaters (6-3), though, came away with more than just purple hearts. It gave them six nonconference victories for the first time since 1982-83.
Christ finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in leading Irvine to its second straight victory.
Irvine, which led by as many as 14 points in the second half, held off two St. Francis rallies, the last coming when the Terriers pulled to within 55-50 with four minutes left.
