Rabbinical Seminary Elected to Council

Underscoring the prominence of Judaism on the West Coast, a leading New York-based organization for Conservative Judaism has for the first time elected a Los Angeles rabbinical seminary as a permanent member.
The Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies of the University of Judaism, which ordained its first graduates last May, became a full member this month of the Leadership Council of Conservative Judaism.
“It is recognition that the Ziegler School is a major player in the Conservative movement and is providing leadership nationally,” said Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, the seminary dean. Artson and Mark Lainer, chairman of the seminary’s board of directors, will sit on the council.
The council includes representatives of leading institutions of Conservative Judaism. All other members are based on the East Coast.
