Jaycees Santas, Sans the Big Red Suits
For 65 years, members of the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce, commonly known as the Jaycees, have played Santas for thousands of families during the holiday season.
This season, five members played Santa for us as our jovial cover boys in designer duds. But come Christmas Eve, Peter Beam, Pat Myles, Todd Vradenburg, Larry Sandoval and Brian Yan will step into their Santa outfits and join 50 other Jaycee Santas delivering toys to 7,000 kids in Pasadena, Altadena, South Pasadena and Sierra Madre.
The Operation Santa teams, which include a Mrs. Claus and an elf driver, also will visit more than 1,000 families as they deliver toys--based on Dear Santa letters written by the children--acquired through contributions, toy drives and pre-Santa visits to companies for a donation.
