The newly reopened Beechwood School will hold its first spelling bee Friday at 1 p.m. Students in third through sixth grades will challenge each other until one emerges as the champion. Awards will be given to all participants.
The school was reopened in September after being shut down for 21 years.
The spelling bee will also provide practice for the districtwide contest, which will be held in January at Golden Hill Elementary.
