Cypress Cultural Arts Commissioner Alexandria Coronado will appear before the commission Sept. 2 to request support for Kennedy High School’s band performance at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, if they are officially reinstated, said Rhonda Barone, the cultural arts and recreation department secretary.
Kennedy High was dropped from the performance list in June, but Olympic organizers are expected to reinstate the band due to the pressures of a breach-of-contract lawsuit that was filed by the company organizing the trip. Coronado will only request financial or moral support from the commission if the band is officially asked back to play at the Games.
