Residents at a public workshop Tuesday on revitalizing the West Side signaled their support for expanding neighborhood commercial uses around Placentia Avenue and 19th Street to create a village environment. This could include expanding the Vista Center by removing adjacent housing, renovating buildings on adjacent properties and creating a pedestrian plaza. The majority of the 160 residents in attendance chose that option over the less-ambitious one of keeping the area the way it is but with some improvements to appearance. The workshop was held to gauge public opinion on various proposals before a draft of a specific plan is submitted to the City Council by consultants EIP Associates.
