A month after the Orange County Housing Authority denied a $15,000 grant for the Neighborhood Center on Santa Paula Street, officials are still searching for ways to keep the center open. “People need to know that we are doing big things with what little we have,” center director Stella Cox said. “This is a place where kids can come.”
Cox said the center seeks to prevent drug abuse, gang affiliation and homelessness and provides after-school tutoring, nutrition classes and other activities that organizers say helps keep kids on the right track. Information: (714) 891-4868.
