From Times Wire Reports
A French court freed American fugitive Ira Einhorn, convicted of the 1977 killing of his girlfriend, and scheduled a December hearing on a U.S. extradition request. It was the second time French authorities have jailed and released Einhorn, 57, who eluded U.S. justice for nearly two decades before he was arrested last year. He was well known in Philadelphia in the 1960s as an antiwar leader and once ran for mayor. He denies killing Helen “Holly” Maddux, whose corpse was found stuffed in a trunk in his closet.
