4 Hospitalized After 2-Car Crash

NORTH HOLLYWOOD — A fiery two-car accident in a northbound lane of the Hollywood Freeway on Wednesday morning hospitalized four people, including two in critical condition, and tied up traffic for about two hours.
The accident occurred about 9:45 a.m. just north of Magnolia Boulevard when the hood of a Nissan, carrying two men and a woman, popped open, causing the driver to stop in the fast lane, said CHP Sgt. Jerry Sawasaki.
“It completely blocked his view of the roadway,” Sawasaki said.
A man in a Buick rear-ended the Nissan, which caught fire, Sawasaki said.
A male victim, whose name and age were not made public, was flown to UCLA Medical Center in critical condition with chest injuries, a hospital spokesman said. Northbound and southbound freeway lanes were closed briefly for the helicopter landing.
A female victim was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she was listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday evening, said a hospital spokesman who declined to identify her.
A 69-year-old Burbank man was treated at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank and released. Another male victim was treated at North Hollywood Medical Center and released.
