Campaign Reform Session Postponed

People eager to see campaign spending cleaned up will have to wait a little longer.
Because of a scheduling glitch, the series of campaign reform proposals suggested by a citizens’ task force will not be heard at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. That discussion is now scheduled July 7.
The postponement occurred because one council member is scheduled to miss the Tuesday meeting, said Jim Bruno, one of the campaign finance committee leaders.
Among other proposals, the committee suggested a $250 limit on campaign contributions. Members also advocated that Thousand Oaks begin electing its mayor directly and the city create an ethics commission to handle campaign disputes.
If approved, the rules would be in effect for the bulk of the upcoming campaign season.
