Jury Agrees Whistle-Blower Was Wrongfully Fired

A jury agreed Friday with an executive’s charges that he was wrongfully fired from Kajima Engineering Construction after discovering the company had overbilled the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Ed Riahi, a onetime senior vice president with the Pasadena-based firm, argued that his bosses let him go because he had found that the company “cooked” its books, charging the MTA for a project in San Francisco that the agency had never commissioned.
Kajima attorney Richard Lotts argued that Riahi was a disloyal employee and that the lawsuit was his “desperate attempt to line his own pockets.”
The jury has yet to decide on any damages in the case.
