Who Should Care for Kids--America or Parents?

I almost choked on my bagel when I read “Is America Ready to Care for Its Children?” (Jan. 15) on the president’s child-care initiative.

Why is it so hard for liberals to understand that for every dollar the government gives to one person, it has to take three dollars from someone else who has earned it?

Does it make any sense to tax childless people (who may be responsibly refraining from having children and trying to save enough money to get married) to pay for the care of other people’s children? And it makes even less sense to ask parents of their own children to send money to Washington so that, after the bureaucrats and child-care industry have taken their cuts, Washington can send some of it back to them.

To answer your question: America’s parents used to care for their own children, but then liberals and feminists convinced people that it makes sense to work harder to pay higher taxes so that the government can give some of that money back to us to pay for child care which is necessary because we have to work harder to pay higher taxes. . . .

According to your article, Americans are ready to get other people to raise their children and get the rest of us to pay for it.
