Cartoon Gives Wrong Idea About Unions
I am very disappointed that the L.A. Times chose to run a cartoon in its Southern California Living section on Nov. 30 that is blatantly anti-union.
The cartoon I am referring to is “The Wizard of Id” and reads as follows:
“Out of 10 workers, how come only one is working?”
“He didn’t join the union.”
This gives a very false impression of what unions are really about. Unions protect workers’ rights, and are there to make sure that workers get the compensation and benefits that they deserve. Union workers work as hard as any other workers.
Printing a cartoon such as this serves no good purpose. I am pro-union and proud of it.
