Cosmos Crisis

Oh, what frightful memories “Tour Bites Man” (Oct. 26) brought back to me!
In 1980, I took a tour to Greece with Cosmos. We dubbed the Asty Hotel in Athens “the Nasty Asty.” My room, with one window and soiled curtain, looked out on a wall. The tank above the commode continually dripped on me. It was Sunday--no room service, no clean towels (mine were used to mop up the bathroom floor).
The tour director abandoned the group in Athens two days before we were due to leave, with two-thirds of us down with a virus. We were required to check out of the Asty by 10 a.m., but did not catch a plane back to England until 5 p.m.
It was a cheap tour--you get what you pay for--but I’ve never traveled with Cosmos again.
