MISSION VIEJO — Dana Hills defeated Trabuco Hills, 35-14, to secure its first playoff appearance in six years and finish second in the South Coast League.
“The guys knew there was no bigger game than this one,” said Coach Scott Orloff of his team, which is 7-2-1, 3-1-1.
“I told the seniors this is what they worked so hard all year long for--the sacrifices they made, the weights they pumped, week in and week out.”
Senior running back Julio Peraza rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior wide receiver Larry Page also scored twice on passes from junior quarterback Jeremy Walker.
Dana Hills jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after a short kickoff to open the game.
Starting at their 44, the Dolphins moved 56 yards in three plays. Walker flipped a screen pass to Page from 13 yards out to score.
Trabuco narrowed the margin to one point just before the quarter ended when Al Gandall slanted off left tackle for a 14-yard touchdown.
Gandall rushed 134 yards in 24 carries.
Peraza put any upset hopes Trabuco Hills had to rest on Dana Hills’ first series of the third quarter.
He broke loose for a 71-yard touchdown run and a 28-6 lead.
