The Heritage of San Clemente Foundation recently kicked off a tribute to U.S. Marine gunner Gib Bolton.
The retired weapons expert, who lives in Oceanside, trained soldiers in infantry maneuvers for 18 years at Camp Pendleton. His 30-year career was highlighted by Silver Star and Purple Heart medals. He is considered a war hero and an institution among those in the military, said Wayne Eggleston, director of the foundation.
The exhibit will feature photographs, plaques, about 10 uniforms and other memorabilia that tell about Bolton’s military career, which ended in 1989 with his retirement.
The exhibit will run through February. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There is no charge for active-duty military personnel; $2.75 general admission; $1.75 for seniors. Information: (714) 369-1299.
