TV Rating for Belmont Jumps 63%

NEW YORK — ABC’s overnight rating for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes was up 63% over last year because of Silver Charm’s quest for the Triple Crown.
ABC spokesman Mark Mandel said Sunday that the race, in which Touch Gold spoiled Silver Charm’s bid for the Triple Crown, had a 6.2 rating and a 16 share, compared to 3.6 last year, when no Triple Crown was at stake. Each rating point represents 970,000 homes.
It was the highest overnight rating for the Belmont since 1989, the last time the Triple Crown was on the line.
