Rally Falls Short for JetHawks, 8-7

LANCASTER — After falling into a five-run hole in the second inning, the Lancaster JetHawks rallied but lost, 8-7, to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday before 4,168 at the Hangar.
The JetHawks (32-32) dropped four games behind Stockton in the California League Valley Division with six games to play in the first half.
JetHawk second baseman Chris Dean had three hits, including his eighth home run, and third baseman Carlos Villalobos had two hits.
Lancaster starter Joe Victery gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings. Reliever Aaron Scheffer (6-2) took the loss, giving up three runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Rancho Cucamonga was led by former Cal State Northridge outfielder Greg Shockey, who had three hits, and Rio Mesa High graduate Mike Mitchell, who had two hits and three runs batted in.
Shockey, who raised his average to .316, said Saturday he was leaving the Quakes today to seek a greater challenge in the Mexican League.
