Panel Details Slaying of Bhutto’s Brother

A three-judge tribunal said the estranged brother and political rival of then-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was not the target when he was shot to death in September along with six of his bodyguards and comrades in the southern port of Karachi. Instead, senior government officials had ordered police “to kill the bodyguards and other armed companions of Murtaza Bhutto,” said the judges’ report, carried by the state-run news agency. Benazir Bhutto’s husband, former Investment Minister Asif Ali Zardari, has been jailed and charged with murder in connection with the slaying. He denies any involvement.
