Muppets hunt for stardom and treasure on Disney; a fishy tale on HBO; USA spots ‘Ghost Dad’

The Cartoon Network pays tribute to that wascally wabbit Bugs Bunny with its fifth annual June Bugs marathon. The weeklong festival begins with “Bugs Bunny’s Mad World of Television,” in which Bugs is head of a television network (Monday at 5 p.m.). Monday through Thursday shows will begin at 5 p.m. and run for an hour. A 48-hour marathon starts Friday at 5 p.m. Nearly 100 different Bug Bunny cartoons will be shown. (Some Bugs Bunny trivia: What vegetable did the rabbit chomp on in “Hare-Um Scare-Um”? (A) Carrot. (B) Rhubarb. (C) Celery. (D). Succotash. (Answer at end of column.) For the family.

Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear travel from a Georgia swamp to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune in The Muppet Movie (Disney Channel, Sunday at 4:20 p.m). Miss Piggy and numerous Hollywood stars join them. For the family.

In Muppet Treasure Island (Disney Channel, Sunday at 7 p.m.), young Jim Hawkins searches for fortune on the high seas, accompanied by two fuzzy friends: the Great Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat. Kermit the Frog is the ship’s captain; Miss Piggy is the queen of the island’s wart hogs. For the family.

The animated musical series “Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child” presents The Fisherman and His Wife (HBO, Sunday at 7:30 p.m.). It’s the classic tale (with music) of a fisherman and his wife who are happy until a magical fish offers them a wish. Edward James Olmos is the voice of the fisherman, opera diva Julia Migenes is the wife and comedian Paul Rodriguez speaks for the fish. For ages 5 to 11.

Ghost Dad (USA, Saturday at 6 p.m.) stars Bill Cosby as a father whose encounters with the supernatural teaches him it is never too late to get in touch with his children. Directed by Sidney Poitier. For the family.
