Hitchcock Put on Disabled List

San Diego Padre left-hander Sterling Hitchcock was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, retroactive to Friday, with a strained throwing elbow.
Hitchcock (5-5, 4.35 earned-run average) was hurt throwing a split-fingered fastball to Colorado’s Andres Galarraga on Thursday.
The Padres promoted right-hander Todd Erdos from double-A Mobile, Ala., for his first major league stint. Erdos was 0-1 with 12 saves and a 1.93 ERA in 25 games at Mobile. He had 26 strikeouts and six walks in 28 innings.

Cincinnati Red starter Mike Morgan left Saturday’s game against the Mets at New York because of pulled rib cage muscles and was put on the 15-day disabled list. On Friday, the Reds put starter John Smiley on the disabled list with a strained groin.

Florida Marlin center fielder Devon White left as game against Colorado in the first inning because of pain in his left calf muscle. He pulled up lame after running out a grounder to third that went foul. He was assisted by a Marlin trainer and was unable to continue.
