Joe Kennedy Tenders Apology to Delegates

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, planning a run for governor, went before nearly 3,000 delegates at a state Democratic convention in Salem to apologize for highly publicized family problems affecting himself and his brother Michael. The Massachusetts Democrat has been dogged by questions about his decision to seek an annulment and about Michael Kennedy’s alleged affair with a teenage baby sitter. The apology came on the same day the Boston Herald published a poll that shows the controversies have hurt Kennedy politically, leaving him in a statistical tie with rival Atty. Gen. Scott Harshbarger.
