Teenager Surrenders After Fatal Shooting of 11-Year-Old Boy

An 11-year-old Bell Gardens boy was shot and killed by a 15-year-old neighbor in the older boy’s home, police said Saturday.

Los Angeles County paramedics and Bell Gardens police found the 11-year-old about 3:45 p.m. Friday in the bedroom of an apartment on the 5800 block of Gage Avenue. He had been shot once in the head.

Four hours later, the 15-year-old, who lives with his family at the Gage Avenue apartment, surrendered to Bell Gardens police, calling the shooting an accident, according to Sgt. Michael Crose.

The teenager brought with him the .38-caliber revolver used in the shooting, Crose said.

Police on Saturday were still investigating the shooting, Crose said, and had not determined whether it was accidental.

The teenager was being held Saturday at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.

Crose said police do not know if the two boys were friends. The 11-year-old lived near the site of the shooting.

Although the 15-year-old had been “affiliated with gang members,” police do not know if he is in a gang, Crose said.
