Singer Disappears While Swimming

Singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, son of ‘60s folk music cult hero Tim Buckley, disappeared while swimming at night in a marina near the Mississippi River, Memphis authorities said. Searchers could not find the 30-year-old musician, who was in Memphis preparing to begin recording his second album. Buckley was swimming alone while a companion sat nearby on the marina bank, officials said. The friend notified authorities about 10 minutes after he realized Buckley was missing. Buckley was widely hailed as a bright pop music newcomer after the 1994 release of his album, “Grace.” His father died of a drug overdose in 1975 at age 28.
