Eight-Run First Is Not Enough for Concordia

Concordia, despite scoring eight runs in the first inning, lost to visiting Northwood (Texas) University, 14-11, Thursday in a baseball game called after eight innings.
Brett Waslefsky had a single, double and triple and drove in four runs for Concordia (6-10). Ben Kindreich had two hits in three at-bats and is seven for his last 12 for Concordia.
Ernie Silva had three hits and drove in two runs for Concordia.
Waslefsky had a double and a two-run single in the first inning. His single in his second at-bat in the inning put Concordia ahead, 8-5.
The Eagles added two more in the second and led 10-5. But Northwood (3-4) got four in the third and two in the fourth to take an 11-10 lead. Northwood went up, 14-10, with three in the sixth.
In the Big West Conference swimming championships:
UC Irvine men in third--The UC Irvine men’s swim team is in third place after the first of three days at Belmont Plaza Pool. Chris Robertson was second in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:32.86 for the Anteaters. The Irvine women’s team was in sixth place after five events.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Grossmont 5, Southern California College 4--Amy Tate defeated Grossmont’s Donna Combs, 6-0, 6-0, in singles. Catherine White also won, 6-2, 6-2, for Southern California College (6-3).
