Opponent--Atlanta Hawks.
Site--Omni, Atlanta.
Time--4:30 PST.
TV--Channel 9 (delayed 6 p.m.).
Radio--KLAC (570) (delayed 6 p.m.).
Records--Lakers 39-17, Hawks 37-18.
Record vs. Hawks--1-0.
Laker update--The Lakers remain last in the league in free-throw shooting at 67%, but they have shot 77.7% the last 11 games, including 20 of 26 Tuesday at Houston followed by 21 of 26 Thursday at Washington. “The easy answer is, ‘Sure, Shaq is not shooting them,’ ” Coach Del Harris said. “But almost nobody on this team was shooting them. So we’ve shot well.”
Hawk update--Mookie Blaylock has passed Laker Eddie Jones for the league lead in steals. Dikembe Mutombo, meanwhile, is No. 2 in blocked shots, so it’s no surprise that the Hawks went into Thursday fourth in shooting defense and third in scoring defense. They were even third in free-throw defense. Unable to trade Ken Norman before the deadline last week, the Hawks then considered waiving him and eating the final two years of a contract worth $7 million, but instead put him on the injured list because of continued back problems.
