Pauline Virginia-Soto Cobos; Santa Paula Resident

Pauline Virginia-Soto Cobos, a lifelong resident of Santa Paula, died Wednesday, on her 85th birthday, in a Santa Paula hospital.

She was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Santa Paula. In 1932, she married William Cobos, a Saticoy native, and the two started their family soon after.

“She was always a giving person and always worrying just like a mother,” said William Cobos Jr., of Santa Paula.

Cobos devoted her time to family, her son said, and when she took time for herself it was often to play bingo.

“Mom was more or less a bingo girl seven days out of the week. When we’d ask my dad where mom was, he’d say, ‘Well, she was working,’ ” said Cobos. But, Pauline Cobos would actually be at a bingo game, he said.

Cobos was preceded in death by her husband who died in May 1995.

In addition to her son, Pauline Cobos is survived by a daughter, Shirley Bustillos of Santa Paula; brothers, Alfred and Rudy Soto, both of Santa Paula; one sister, Ida Rosas of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m., at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula. A vigil/rosary will be said Sunday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Santa Paula. Mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Santa Paula Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary.
