Dude Has Rad Idea for Schools

Having once been a student at Corona del Mar High School, and a student who surfed, and knew surfers from other coastal high schools, I know that I and my fellow surfer-students often talked in a surf-speak dialect.

Words such as “rad,” “duuuude,” and “tubed” might be familiar to the otherwise uninitiated. When one surfer said to another: “Dude, I was tubed on this rad over-header, until I popped out, did an off-the-lip, that sent over-the-falls, when I was hatin’ it!” the communication was much clearer to surfer-students among us than if such a situation were described in standard English.

I thus propose that federal funds be made available for the teaching of surfers attending coastal high schools so that they might be taught in this dialect to better facilitate their education.

And I further propose that the official name for this dialect be referred to hereafter as “dudeonics.”
