PALMDALE — A North Hollywood resident directing traffic around a stalled vehicle was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver Saturday in an accident that involved three more vehicles and injured four other people on the Antelope Valley Freeway, authorities said.
The name of the fatally injured person was being withheld pending notification of relatives, said Garry Goldenberg, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. He said he did not know the person’s gender or age.
The accident occurred at about 2 p.m. on the northbound lanes at the Pearblossom Highway offramp--a few miles south of Palmdale’s city limits, Goldenberg said.
Two victims who suffered minor injuries were taken to the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center and two others refused medical treatment, said Diana Aronson, a county Fire Department spokeswoman.
The suspected drunk driver was detained and the case remained under investigation late Saturday, Goldenberg said.
