ORANGE — A robbery attempt failed Thursday after a security guard opened fire on a man who entered a bank carrying a pistol-grip shotgun, police said.
The gun-toting bandit walked into the Marine National Bank, 65 S. Main Street, about 10:15 a.m., Police Lt. Ed Tunstall said. A security guard saw the man and fired at least six rounds, but apparently did not strike the suspect, who fled in an unknown direction, police said.
There were no customers in the bank at the time, and no injuries were reported, Tunstall said. Police said there was no evidence indicating that the suspect had returned fire.
