Former Minnesota Twin outfielder Kirby Puckett received the Roberto Clemente Award before the game for his contributions on and off the field.

Said Puckett, forced to retire because of the loss of vision in his right eye: “I closed the chapter on that part of my life. I played every game like it was the last game, so I can leave with a smile on my face. I don’t plan to look back. I plan to look ahead.”
