Court Rejects Journal’s Bid for Name: The state Supreme Court unanimously refused to let the Wall Street Journal call its weekly California-focused pages California Journal, a name already used by a monthly political magazine. The Wall Street Journal, whose 1.8 million national circulation includes 280,000 in California, announced last month that it would publish five pages of regional financial news each Wednesday under the name California Journal. The newspaper publishes the Texas Journal, Florida Journal and Southeast Journal as regional sections. The existing California Journal, a 17,000-circulation magazine of political analysis published since 1970, filed suit, saying the name would cause confusion among readers. Rex Heinke, a lawyer for the newspaper, could not be reached for comment. The Journal could appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
