GE 3rd-Quarter Profit Rises 11%: General Electric Corp. said the boost in third-quarter earnings was helped by the Summer Olympics broadcast by its NBC television network. The Fairfield, Conn.-based company earned $1.79 billion, or $1.08 a share, on revenue of $20 billion in the three months ended Sept. 30. A year earlier, the company earned $1.61 billion, or 96 cents a share, on revenue of $17.34 billion. The results matched Wall Street’s expectations. But GE’s stock was down 87.5 cents to $92 on NYSE.
