Pat Boone interprets metal records? A bunch of alterna-artists play the Carpenters? Compared to such high-concept projects, top country stars performing Beach Boys songs--with harmonies by the originators--sounds positively boring. Listening to this CD only confirms that notion. Willie Nelson puts a fresh spin on “Warmth of the Sun” and James House stamps “Little Deuce Coupe” with Lovett-ish charm. Otherwise, we’re talkin’ wooden vibrations.
