So Far, They Are Winning Ground War

John Elway has been just another quarterback so far, yet Denver is the surprise team in the NFL after two weeks.
Two years ago the Broncos were last in the league in total defense and pass defense. Now they are first in both. They are also ranked No. 1 in running the ball with running back Terrell Davis having more yards (183) than Tampa Bay’s entire offense.
The Broncos, who play host to the Buccaneers on Sunday night, have added speed to their defense and have a dozen sacks--it took them seven games a year ago to compile that many. The defense has recovered six fumbles--it took them nine games a year ago to reach that number.
In Elway’s 14-year career, the team has rushed for more than 2,000 yards only three times. The results? The Broncos went 13-3, 11-5 and 12-4.
“I believe strongly in my heart that there isn’t any team out there that can stop the Broncos,” Davis said.
