U.S. Unable to Link Jet Crash to Terrorists

Despite more than eight weeks of global intelligence gathering, authorities investigating the crash of TWA Flight 800 have been unable to link it to international terrorist groups, according to law enforcement sources. The overseas intelligence-gathering effort has included eavesdropping, use of informants and offers of large cash payments for leads, the sources said. The effort has been undertaken by the CIA, the National Security Agency, the Drug Enforcement Administration and foreign investigative agencies, they said. The July 17 crash off Long Island, N.Y., killed all 230 aboard.
