Philadelphia Paper Publishes Correction on Williams Stories

Los Angeles Police Chief Willie L. Williams expressed satisfaction Friday that a Philadelphia newspaper has corrected two April stories in which it quoted sources accusing Williams of thwarting a sting operation intended to catch police officers stealing drug money.
“I am extremely pleased that the Philadelphia Inquirer has finally published a retraction,” Williams said through a spokesman.
Williams, a former Philadelphia police commissioner who refused to speak to the Philadelphia Inquirer when it was preparing its story, denied the account after it appeared. His lawyer pressed the paper for a retraction, and Friday’s story was published in response.
