An Inglewood man who police said roped his wife’s body to the rear of his van and dragged it through the streets for more than a mile was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder.
Jude Nwandu, 44, was being held without bail after his arrest about 2:30 a.m.
Police were patrolling near Inglewood Avenue and Buckthorn Street when they saw Nwandu’s van pulling his wife’s limp body, which was attached to the van at the ankles, authorities said.
The officers chased the car, which sped down the street. The rope broke and the body of Georginia Nwandu, 38, was flung to the side of the road. Jude Nwandu was chased for about a mile before he crashed into a parked car in the 900 block of East La Brea Drive.
Officers were not sure if Georginia Nwandu was dead before she was dragged behind the vehicle, but police said they found a great deal of blood at the couple’s condominium on West Buckthorn Street.
