The Los Angeles Galaxy was assured of a place in the Major League Soccer playoffs Thursday night when the Colorado Rapids were beaten, 2-1, by Washington D.C. United in front of 6,368 at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
Goals by Shawn Medved in the third minute and Steve Rammel in the 49th gave United (14-14) the win and a place in post-season play.
Jean Harbor scored in the 40th minute for Colorado (10-19), which has three games left and cannot overtake the Galaxy.
The Rapids were without South African national team striker Shawn Bartlett who was serving a one-game suspension after accumulating five yellow cards.
