Re “The Value of a Life,” Aug. 12.

Thank you to the family of Jesus Berumen. By your courage and passionate moral convictions you have taught us all a lesson. You have shown us by your strength that the $35,000 plea bargain attempt was a worthless exchange for the life of your husband and father.

Instead, you have made us all richer by removing a drunken driver from the streets. And, by your example, hopefully, you have given us the strength to do the same if ever necessary.
